6 AM in Our Kitchen

The red apple on the pantry,
The Nutella spread,

The music from Gold FM
Hits from the 90s on the radio.

The knife that cuts bread,
The spoon that mixes the curry

A fly that snuck in,
Feeding on the thrown waste,

My wife, looking inviting,
In a pair of skimpy shorts,

As my eyes can only think
One thing, my chores, the to-do list

The art of husbandry,
The science of tillage,

The beautiful agony,
On 43 muscles of her visage,

How beautiful is the paradox
Of a smiling assassin like love

How Velcro-like love is,
Difficult to pull apart,

Until amplified inside,
For relief valves to open,

Surfacing an explosive smile
