Stroking your cheek
I’m defined by the meaning of proximity
In the tension of not knowing
Anything can happen. You and I, in the cosmic sense
Time-draining forms of bone and protein
Liable to collide, just so that
We know, we are not just here on earth
To be earthlings, that the boundless spaces
Above us, are ours too, to orbit.
Aren’t we celestial bodies on our own right
Escaping our own gravities – our need to be weightless
Flying to unknown places we can never inhabit
And yet our consciousness can feel.
But lies beyond measure. And our bodies,
If they were only flapping kites on earth,
They become free comets in space.
