American Football

A game of Ravens and Bengali Tigers
The corvids and the felines.

Playing a game of catch, steal and run
On a lawn long enough for a race

Of endurance and trickery. Where strapping men
Make mercenaries out of their bodies,

Courage stretching beyond spandex
To catch an oblong flying ball, and drag her home;

Drawn by the elasticity of anatomy
And the precision of the iris-aperture

To make grown men dance to the hysteria
Of a fusion of grid and iron,

Storming past melting point, to thaw with fury
On the other side of a white line,

In whoop and dance.
