In Archie’s comics
Betty and Veronica
Are not just buxom creatures
But the heart’s tug-of-war
Between blonde and brunette
As man retracts in age
To be that boy once again – reminiscing
The times when a woman is more than just a woman
She is the sculpture covered in fabric
Waiting to be unveiled by mortal palms
After all they say sight of a naked lass
Is when a boy develops a taste
For some table sugar – sucrose
When his affinity for a disaccharide is
As normal as a child’s toy
When all he wants to do
Is to play with crystals of sugar
Only to find out one fated day
He is a full-blown diabetic
Needing an ounce of insulin
To oil his sweet tooth.
